A whole sub-continent of waves have largely been ignored by the traveling surf tribes for the best part of half a century and aside from Sri Lanka, very few countries in the Bay of Bengal would be considered true surf destinations. This is not to say there is no surf – quite the opposite in fact – but India (and The Andaman Islands), Myanmar and Thailand are on a completely different travel agenda, so few bother to lug a board round for what most perceive as 2ft monsoonal wind slop. The reality is there are days of real quality to be had on all these coasts during their on season, with surprising wave height, power and shape.
